20 species of dung beetles are known to occur in Egypt none of which are endemic. If you are aware of other species not included here please e-mail c.borrow@nhm.ac.uk or write to Chris Borrow, Department of Entomology, The Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, London, England, SW7 5BD.
Both Kheper aegyptorum (Latreille, 1827) and Scarabaeus sacer (Linnaeus, 1758) played the roll of 'sacrid' Scarab in Ancient Egypt, the change in species possibly reflecting changes in the distributions of the two species caused by climate change (Cooter & Barclay, 2006).
